An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer and works as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, web hosting servers also feature an Operating System that acts as a host for the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and many others. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you'll be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast with the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer you as many as 3 different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs available on the market and we offer all three of them rather than only one since we realize that you might want to set up some software with specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there're various software programs you can install on the web hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you would like to use one and for this reason we offer multiple Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you need a different OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and install the one that you need. We also offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to obtain one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on your server as different apps can have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian feature different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and secure web hosting service. Based on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you've selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
